The first modern Olympic Games to be held in the United States were the St. Louis games of 1904, coinciding with the World's Fair there. The World's Fair had its own athletic competition, "Anthropology Days," which were intended to demonstrate the superiority of White athletes compared to cultures represented at the World's Fair and have now become associated with both the World's Fair and Olympics.
